AI “SLOP” WARNING: Kids & Elderly 100% @ Risk

Parents , listen up!

If you’ve been wondering why some videos online suddenly feel… off… you’re not imagining it. The internet is being flooded with what’s now being called “AI slop”, AI generated videos that are particularly weird, catchy, and designed to keep us (especially kids and the elderly) watching.

Think dancing animals that make no sense, impossible science facts, heart pumping situations, or cartoon characters doing things that belong in a fever dream.

“I just saw one this morning where a rescue worker pulls a bear cub into a chopper’s bay door just before an avalanche swallows him!!” says Cat Schwartz, the editor of this blog.

“I knew it was AI Slop, but would a kid or my 85 year old uncle know? Nope! They’d be freaked out and I’m worried my uncle will fall for the donation ask or a child would now this it’s ok to grab a cub.”

Researchers are finding that these groups can be especially vulnerable because they often can’t tell what’s real and what’s AI-generated. Even worse, the creators use AI to study the analytics and live viewing data (literally using tech that analysis eye movements and retina dilation, which can indicate emotion) to enhance content.

YouTube is particularly prone to hosting AI slop designed specifically to glue little eyes to their screens and it’s distorting their feeds. Parents are defiantly noticing, and freaking out.

Honestly though, this might be the new digital literacy lesson we all need. We taught our kids not to believe everything they saw on the internet… now we have to teach them not to believe everything they see that looks real either.

The future isn’t just about screen-time limits anymore, ughhh!! It’s about helping our kids become really good BS detectors.
